Who first thought of forming a Lodge in Bude and Stratton is not known, but one assumes that W. Bro John Wonnacott, the first W. M. and the Landlord of the Tree Inn Stratton, had a lot to say in the matter. The first Lodge was in the Church Room, Stratton.
Several Bude and Stratton Residents were initiated into Dunheved Lodge, Launceston, and those members were subsequent Founder Members of Granville Lodge. On the 31st July, 1906 the Lodge was informed that the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master had refused to recommend the formation of a Lodge in Stratton.
In November 1909 Brethren of Dunheved Lodge, Launceston signed another petition for the formation of a Lodge to be held in Stratton, and be called the Granville Lodge.
On the 23rd November 1909 Brethren of the Dunheved Lodge received an invitation to be present at the consecration of Granville Lodge at Stratton on he 10th December 1909.
The Consecration took place at Stratton at 1PM, by the Dep. PGM W. Bro. P. Colville-Smith. 60 Brethren were present, plus Consecration Officers. The Volume of the Sacred Law was presented by W. Bro. Donald Petherick which must have been for the Consecration, and W. Bro. Yeo presented the Lodge with a carved charity box which is still used today. On the second meeting 10-1-1910 three candidates were initiated, three joining members, and a further 4 candidates were proposed for initiation. On the 10th of February 1910 three Members were passed to the Second Degree. One initiated. Emergency meetings were not uncommon.
19th April 1910. It was agreed to purchase an Organ from Hayman and Son. Launceston, subject to the approval of Bro. Colwell of Launceston. A vote of thanks was expressed to Mr. J. H. Treleaven for the use of his Organ.
A visiting W. Bro. Rev. E. A. Donaldson asked the Lodge to support a petition to form a Lodge in Holsworthy, Devon. This was carried. At a meeting held on the 19th July, 1910 a letter was read from the Provincial Grand Secretary strongly advising to do nothing of the sort, and not to interfere in the management and arrangement of a neighboring Province. Rev. Donaldson had been seen and the matter explained to him. On the 22nd August 1910 the W. M. announced that the difficulty in admitting Members from over the Border had been removed.
On 22nd August 1910 a letter was read from the Secretary of One and All Lodge, Bodmin, asking to have the Banner of the Lodge carried in Procession on the occasion of their Foundation stone laying. As the Lodge ad no Banner, it was proposed and seconded that the Banner be obtained before the next Provincial meeting.
A resolution was passed to hold the Lodge on the third Tuesday, instead of the second Monday, and at the next meeting to change from the second Monday to the third Tuesday was agreed.
On the 20th December 1910 after the opening of the Installation Meeting, the Brethren adjourned to Stratton Parish Church, where a service was held, after which the Brethren returned to the Lodge and the Installation of the W.M. and the Investiture of his officers took place.
The first major upheaval was on the 21st March 1911, when seven subscribing members gave notice of motion, that the next regular Meeting of the Lodge be moved from the Church Room in Stratton to a suitable Building in Bude. An emergency Meeting was held and the notice of motion was carried. The Last Meeting in Stratton was on th 17th October 1911, and the first Meeting in Bude was on the 21st November 1911.
There is a story, but no confirmation, that the Building was in Week St. Mary, and was moved to Bude. It could have been prefabricated Building, bought to Bude by some supplier. As it was a timber Building, put on masonry foundations, it was quickly built.
The Installation Banquet at the Grenville Hotel in January 1912 cost 5/- Refreshment after Labour in 1915 at the Globe Hotel Bude was 2/- but increased to 3/- in 1916.
1912 First Lecture given in the Lodge.
20-9-1912 W. Bro. H. Bury Knight said he would like to see Photos of Past Masters to be displayed in the Lodge room, and Past Masters to present their Photos for this purpose (still carried out today).

In 1979, we had an unusual situation when the Worshipful Master vacated the Masters Chair, came down onto the floor of the Lodge and announced that he was resigning at a months notice, because he was hoping to enter the Ministry and felt there would be a conflict of opinion.
In 1993, the floods descended and the Lodge was flooded, the worst in it's history. When Cleave Camp closed down, the Lodge bought a number of tip up seats from the Camp Cinema, after the flooding which ruined the seats, which were replaced with upholstered benches and fitted on plinths. During the floods, one of the problems was flood damage to the Lodge minute Books. On professional advice they were left to dry out naturally for eight months or so, although some still suffer badly from staining. The total cost of the flood repairs was £20,015.78p
The June meeting was held at the Bullers Arms, Marhamchurch by kind permission of Bro. Des Gregory.

In the early days the Lodge did have it's usage, Whist Drives and Dances, which went on until the early hours of the morning. We do know from a programme which Bro. Des Gregory has, that a Dance was held in the Lodge ante room as part of the Bude 1928 Carnival.

In May 1991 the Meeting was a special occasion, when the Provincial Grand Master gave dispensation to allow the Lodge to open and close in the first degree only, this was to allow the Brethren to be joined by the Ladies after Masonic Business to view the Temple, hear a little about the various offices and to see the Grand Lodge Video. Afterwards they were entertained to supper.
Over the years, it would appear that the Lodge had practiced emulation working, although some changes have taken place. One other practice has changed, although many may not be aware of it. In the early days the newly installed Master signed the back of the warrant when it was presented to him for safe keeping. These signatures are still on the back of the warrant, and may be seen by anyone interested.
